How I love my Sunday school children. Looking at me with those big inquisitive eyes. On a Sunday in class we sat together, turning the pages to the planned lesson. There it comes...so consistently, the spirit guiding me to ask a question unrelated to the planned lesson. A question about Easter and Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Now we are discussing His life and commandments. "What are the commandments Jesus taught?" I asked. Probing further, "what is the greatest commandment?"
Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is:‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:29-31
When a teacher says there is no other aspect more important than this one part of the work, then the students normally sit up and listen. Notes are made to remember the importance of it.
